[1] The Assurance of Answered Prayer

Assurance: The confidence of being free from doubt or uncertainty; the state of being secure.

How Healthy is Your Prayer Life?

No doubt, with the end of an old year, and the start of another, you went before God and prayed with a fervent heart for change, increase, healing, etc. Watch Night services are pivotal times for millions of people. But, how do you know your prayers were heard and are going to be answered?

This is how you know; John 16:24, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”  Memorize this scripture, and meditate on in it through the week. What do these words mean to you and your life? If you don’t know, God will reveal the meaning for you, just listen.

Last week I shared with you that the enemy’s purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy us. He aims to rob us of our peace and assurance.  He wants us to doubt that God hears us and will come to our aid and answer us. The enemy wants us to believe that God is only interested in “other people,” not us and is so far away that he doesn’t have time to deal with us, and the situations of our lives.

I have more good news for you! As a believer, you have been given clearance to go directly to God and ask for anything, anytime. We don’t have to pray to inanimate gods or rely on other people to do our bidding for us. We can go ourselves to the throne of God because he wants to hear directly from us. He has a personal interest in each one of us and longs for us to meet him in prayer every day; about everything that concerns us.

To ask for things in the name of Jesus, means we are asking in his justification and command. And, just as our Father, Daddy, Baba God answered the prayers of our brother Jesus; he will also answer our prayers. If you are in Christ, you belong to God and have the privilege to pray in the name of Jesus.

Understand that God is not a spiritual genie and will not answer us in the ways we expect. Sometimes, his answer comes at a time that does not coincide with our personal agenda He does not answer frivolous or ill-intended prayers. He always answers but does so according to the purpose and plan he created for our lives. God is a good God and gives us good gifts; gifts that we cannot even begin to fathom, (Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”). Imagine that! Anything you could ask for, God can exceed in abundance (Ephesians 3:20)!

To be sure your prayer is answered, follow this prayer acronym that many have learned; pray according to the ACTS. Not the book of Acts, or even your own personal behavior. I am talking about Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication.   First, concentrate on God. Give him praise for who he is. Second, do not cherish any sins. Honestly admit your sins with the knowledge that no matter what you say, he already knows you and still loves you unconditionally. Thirdly, give him thanks. Be grateful for what he has given or done for you. Every one of us has many reasons every day to be thankful. A grateful heart will help you see what he sees in regard to his purpose for your life. Lastly, send your requests. Don’t just pray for yourself, pray for others.

ACTION: Now, take some time to list five things to pray about right now. Follow the ACTS model and talk to God. Remember he is already expecting you, you have his undivided attention.

Be good, be careful, and be a blessing to someone today!

Bad habits? Temptations?  Join me here next week and learn about the Assurance of Victory over those things.
